Anyone else seeing the backfill delays in Geospatial?

Is it just my department, or is HR getting weirdly cagey about backfilling open headcount lately? We lost a senior dev last month and instead of posting the role, management is talking about 'optimizing existing workflows' and 'resource rebalancing.' It’s the same corporate-speak we heard right before the last round of cuts. My manager keeps dodging the question in 1:1s whenever I ask if we’re going to get an extra set of hands. The atmosphere in the office feels like everyone is waiting for the other shoe to drop, but nobody wants to be the one to ask HR directly. If they’re not planning a reduction, why kill the velocity of the current sprint by refusing to fill critical seats? Just feels like we’re being squeezed to make the quarterly numbers look better for the shareholders before a potential announcement. Anyone hearing anything concrete or are we all just speculating in the dark?

Same thing is happening in my division. It is classic Trimble behavior right before an announcement. They use phrases like 'resource rebalancing' to mask the fact that they have no intention of backfilling roles. If management is dodging your direct questions, you should assume the headcount is gone for good. Start looking at your internal options or update your resume now because the 'optimizing' usually ends with more work dumped on those who stay until they burn out.

I have been here for years, and this script is getting really predictable. Whenever HR gets 'cagey,' it is just code for a hiring freeze they haven't made public yet. They want to keep everyone productive as long as possible without the cost of a new salary. It is frustrating, but don't count on that senior dev position coming back anytime soon. It is time to protect your own bandwidth and stop waiting for help that is clearly being withheld by leadership.
