Any rumblings about Q3 headcount reductions?

Is anyone else hearing whispers about further staff reductions for the end of the year? We’ve been hearing a lot of 'efficiency' talk from leadership lately, and the atmosphere in my department has become noticeably tense. Management keeps repeating that we need to tighten the belt, but we haven't seen any actual numbers or specific targets yet. Usually, when the buzzwords start flying this thick, a RIF follows shortly after. I’ve been checking internal job boards and noticed that posting volume has effectively stalled out for certain business units. People are terrified to speak up during all-hands, but the water cooler talk is all about who is on the chopping block next. Has anyone heard anything concrete from their VPs, or are we all just waiting for the inevitable email announcement on a random Thursday morning? I'm trying to decide if it's time to start polishing the resume or if I'm just being paranoid because of the general banking climate right now.

It’s definitely getting quieter in the office. I’ve noticed the same trend with the internal job postings drying up—it’s always a bad sign when they stop backfilling roles. Management loves to hide behind 'efficiency' buzzwords, but anyone who has been through a few quarters here knows exactly what that means. If you have any projects you can document or certifications you can polish up, I’d prioritize that over everything else right now. Keep your resume updated and start networking outside the bank; it’s better to be ready if the rumors turn into actual notices.
