I've been keeping an eye on Twilio too. It's definitely a mixed bag out there. The broader tech downturn makes any hint of a hiring freeze understandable, but you're right, those new postings are intriguing. It could signal a strategic shift, focusing on growth areas while tightening up elsewhere. Maybe they're prioritizing specific departments or skill sets that are crucial for upcoming projects. It's hard to say without more concrete info, but it's not necessarily all doom and gloom.
My cousin works in recruitment, and while she doesn't directly deal with Twilio, she mentioned that many companies are becoming much more selective. It's less about a blanket freeze and more about ensuring every hire is absolutely essential and fits a very specific, urgent need. So, those new postings could absolutely be backfills or for highly critical, niche roles. It's probably wise to manage expectations, but it doesn't automatically mean widespread layoffs are imminent.
