Anyone else feeling the squeeze on 'discretionary' spending?

Hey everyone, just wanted to see if I'm alone in this or if it's a broader trend. Lately, it feels like any request that isn't absolutely mission-critical is getting a really hard look, if not outright denial. Think training budgets, new software tools that aren't strictly necessary for the current project, even some travel. It's understandable to tighten the belt when things are uncertain, but it feels like a significant shift from how things used to be. We've always been encouraged to invest in ourselves and our teams, and now it feels like that's being discouraged. Curious if others are experiencing this and what the vibe is on your teams. Is this a sign of things to come, or just a temporary measure?

Totally feeling this. Our IT department is on lockdown unless it's patching a critical security vulnerability. Even upgrading our current Tyler Technologies suite feels like a Herculean task right now. We've got some great ideas for optimizing workflows using their newer modules, but getting budget approval for anything beyond essential maintenance is proving to be a non-starter. It's a tough climate when you know there are efficiency gains to be had but can't get the green light.

Yeah, it's definitely a trend. We're seeing the same thing, especially with external software. Everything that isn't tied directly to core service delivery or regulatory compliance is being deferred. We were hoping to expand our use of some of the analytics features within Tyler Technologies to better understand citizen engagement, but that's on hold indefinitely. The focus is purely on keeping the lights on and the essential systems running. Hopefully, things will loosen up soon.
