Unexplained changes in my org—anyone else feel the pivot?

There’s a weird energy in the office this week. We had a sudden 'priority shift' memo come down from upper management that basically tells us to stop working on half our current roadmap and pivot to maintenance mode on older products. It feels like they’re trying to squeeze every dollar of margin out of legacy accounts while gutting development investment. Usually, when the narrative shifts this abruptly, it’s a precursor to some 'structural alignment' in the coming months. I’ve been here long enough to recognize the pattern—they try to make the remaining work look as unappealing as possible before they start trimming headcount to make the balance sheet look leaner for stakeholders. Is anyone else seeing their project backlogs gutted or getting told to pause active development? I’m seriously considering polishing up the resume tonight because I don’t want to be caught flat-footed if the axe drops before the holidays. It’s hard to stay focused when you’re constantly looking over your shoulder.

Seen this movie before. Tyler has a history of prioritizing margin expansion over innovation whenever the growth metrics plateau. They lean hard into the 'maintenance mode' strategy because it keeps the recurring revenue safe while they look for ways to cut costs before the next fiscal review. If they're gutting development, it's usually because the roadmap isn't aligning with the margins leadership promised stakeholders. Start updating your resume now, because 'structural alignment' is just corporate speak for layoffs or department consolidation. Don't wait for the hammer to fall.
