Anyone else feeling super uneasy after that all-hands?

I've been at Uber for almost 5 years now, in Engineering, and I've seen some stuff. But that all-hands meeting last week felt different. The CEO kept talking about "efficiency" and "streamlining operations," which, let's be honest, is code for layoffs. He didn't explicitly say it, but the vibe was definitely there. My team has been working overtime trying to hit these ridiculous targets, and now I'm wondering if it's all just so they can cut us and say they squeezed everything they could out of us first. Anyone else feeling this way? I'm starting to update my resume just in case. What are some things I should add? I haven't looked at it in a while.

Yeah, I felt it too. That "efficiency" talk always precedes the axe. Start polishing your resume, just in case. It's better to be prepared than blindsided. Been through this drill at other companies, and the writing's usually on the wall well before the official announcement. Good luck to everyone.

Maybe I'm just optimistic, but isn't it possible he just wants to run the company better? Uber's been bleeding money for years. It's not necessarily a bad thing to try and tighten things up. Let's see what actually happens before we all jump to conclusions about layoffs. Could be process improvements and not personnel cuts.
