Interview

Just got out of an interview, felt weirdly easy...

I interviewed for a Senior Software Engineer role today and honestly, it was strange. The questions were way easier than I expected, almost like they weren't really trying to gauge my technical skills. Has anyone else experienced this recently? The interviewer seemed distracted and kept glancing at their phone. I'm wondering if they're under pressure to fill the role quickly because someone left suddenly, or worse, if they're just going through the motions because they're planning layoffs and freezing hiring soon anyway. I feel like I should be happy it was easy, but now I'm just suspicious. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I've been burned before. Thoughts?

That's definitely odd. I had a similar experience interviewing at [similar company] last year. Super simple questions, interviewer seemed disinterested. Turns out, they were restructuring the entire department the following month and the role was basically a placeholder. Might be worth gently probing about team stability in a follow-up email before getting too excited. Good luck!

Easy interview? Red flag. Uber has been known to have...let's just say 'fluctuations' in headcount. Honestly, if you're a strong engineer, you deserve to be properly vetted. A rushed, simple interview could mean they're desperate, or worse, not really concerned about finding top talent. I'd keep your options open and continue applying elsewhere, even if you get an offer.
