Uber's 'efficiency' drive: what's really going on?

Seeing the news about the latest cuts at Uber. It's the third time in as many years I've seen significant layoffs here. They always spin it as 'efficiency' or 'realigning resources,' but it feels more like a constant churn. I've been here for a while, and the job security has definitely eroded. The morale takes a hit every time. People start looking over their shoulders, and collaboration suffers. Is this 'leaner' model truly sustainable in the long run, or is it just setting us up for another crisis down the line? Feels like we're always in 'fix-it' mode instead of building and innovating with stability. Anyone else feel like this is just the new normal here?

It's disheartening to hear about the repeated layoffs. The 'efficiency' narrative feels hollow when it consistently impacts so many. The psychological toll on employees must be immense, fostering an environment of constant anxiety rather than productivity. True sustainability comes from valuing and retaining talent, not just cutting costs. This cycle can't be good for innovation or long-term company health.

I can relate to the feeling of eroding job security. It's tough when management's focus seems to be on short-term financial gains at the expense of employee well-being and team cohesion. The "realigning resources" talk often translates to immense pressure on those remaining. It makes you wonder if the long-term vision is clear or if it's just a series of reactive decisions.
