530 cuts in Grant and Franklin: Here we go again

Just saw the WARN notice hit for 530 people today. It’s brutal timing heading into the holidays. I’ve been with UP for over a decade and the morale is currently the lowest I have ever seen it. They keep preaching 'efficiency' and 'operating ratio' while the folks actually keeping the tracks safe and the freight moving are getting the boot. It’s not just a spreadsheet exercise; these are families in Grant and Franklin counties who have dedicated years to this company. Management will probably try to spin this as a 'strategic realignment,' but let’s be real—it’s just another round of gutting the workforce to make the quarterly numbers look pretty for the shareholders. If you’re affected, make sure you look into your severance and COBRA options immediately. Don’t trust HR to give you the full picture on your benefits, verify everything yourself. Stay strong out there, everyone.

It is honestly disgusting to watch this happen time and again. They talk about these massive profits and record-breaking quarters, yet when the dust settles, it is always the frontline workers paying the price for corporate greed. Efficiency is just a buzzword they use to justify gutting the workforce and putting more stress on the people left behind. My heart goes out to everyone in Grant and Franklin getting these notices. It feels like the company lost its soul years ago and stopped caring about the people who actually built their success.

I have been tracking these layoffs for a while, and the pattern is always the same. They sacrifice long-term stability and institutional knowledge just to make the quarterly numbers look slightly better for the shareholders. It is short-sighted, and it is going to come back to haunt them eventually when they cannot find enough qualified people to run the network safely. Nobody should be losing their livelihood right before the holidays. This management team has clearly prioritized their bonuses over the real human impact of their decisions. Stay strong out there.
