Anyone else's team frozen on hiring? Feels like something's up.

Been at Unity for about 4 years now, working on the engine side. Lately, pretty much all new headcount requests on my team have been put on hold. Not just 'take longer,' but full stops. My manager is being super cagey about it, just saying 'budget reviews' and 'strategic realignment.' It's making it hard to plan anything, and honestly, it's making me a little anxious. We haven't had a big, official layoff announcement, but this feels like a precursor. Anyone else's department experiencing this hiring freeze? Wondering if it's company-wide or just specific divisions feeling the pinch.

Yeah, I've heard similar rumblings from folks in other departments. It's definitely more than just a few individual teams. "Budget reviews" is the standard corporate speak for "we're trying to figure out how much money we can cut without anyone noticing too much." Hang in there. Hopefully, it's just a rough patch and not a sign of bigger issues, but it's understandable to feel uneasy when things go quiet on the hiring front.

My team's been on a hiring freeze for months, but it's always been tied to specific project funding cycles. This sounds different, especially the 'strategic realignment' part. Could be that they're shifting focus to different areas, maybe some internal restructuring is happening that's putting a temporary pause on everything else. Don't jump straight to layoff conclusions just yet, but keep your resume updated, just in case.
