Is Unity's leadership making things worse?

Honestly, the whole situation at Unity feels like a masterclass in how *not* to run a company, especially when it comes to developer relations. They make these drastic, poorly communicated changes to their pricing model, which instantly alienates a huge chunk of their user base – the very people who build games on their engine. And then, crickets. No clear explanation, no real apology, just... more uncertainty. Now, I'm not seeing official layoff numbers for Unity yet, but the vibe feels off. When leadership makes decisions this tone-deaf, it often signals deeper issues. Are they scrambling? Are they realizing their mistake but too proud to admit it? Or is this just the tip of the iceberg, and more cuts are coming down the line because of the backlash and potential loss of customers? It makes me nervous, not just for people working *at* Unity, but for anyone in the industry whose career is tied to their technology. It's hard to build a stable career on a platform that feels so volatile from the top. Anyone else feel this way or have any insider whispers?

It's hard to watch. The pivot on the runtime fee was so jarring, and the lack of transparent communication afterwards just fueled the fire. It feels like a fundamental disconnect between what Unity *thinks* developers want and what we actually need to build our businesses. Hopefully, they can find a way to rebuild that trust, but it's going to take more than just a few blog posts. The stability of the platform is paramount for so many projects.
