Is the tech integration leading to smaller teams?

Okay, so maybe not a massive, announced layoff event, but I'm starting to notice something subtler. It feels like new tech and automation are being rolled out, and instead of it being presented as a way to *help* us, it feels like it's paving the way for fewer people in certain roles. My team used to be bigger, but over the last year, positions haven't been backfilled. We're doing more with less, and the efficiency gains from the new systems are noticeable, but so is the headcount reduction, even if it's gradual. It's like they're engineering out the need for certain jobs without a big, dramatic announcement. Anyone else in roles dealing with new tech seeing their teams shrink or responsibilities shift dramatically without any clear communication on the long-term plan?

I've seen this too, not just at UPS but in other large companies. It's a classic efficiency play. They invest in automation and software, and then gradually freeze hiring or don't replace people who leave. The idea is that the technology will absorb the workload. It's definitely a valid concern if roles are disappearing without open discussion. It puts a lot of pressure on remaining staff to pick up the slack and can feel like a slow, deliberate reduction rather than outright layoffs. Keeps people on edge, for sure.
