Anyone else seeing weird budget cuts/hiring freezes at Valero?

Okay, looking for some validation here. Been with Valero for a few years now, and things have definitely felt different over the last quarter or so. My department is seeing a pretty significant slowdown in hiring, and there's been talk of 'optimizing resources' which sounds like corporate speak for 'watch your step.' I haven't seen any official announcements or anything concrete about layoffs, but the vibe is definitely there. Meetings are getting cut, travel is being scrutinized heavily, and even small expenses seem to be under a microscope. It feels like we're bracing for something, even if nobody's saying it outright. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it company-wide, or are certain divisions feeling it more? Trying to figure out if this is just my location/team or a broader trend at Valero. Appreciate any info you can share.

Yeah, I've heard similar things. It's not just your department, seems to be a company-wide sentiment. Less emphasis on new projects, more on consolidating current operations and scrutinizing expenses. Feels like they're bracing for something, or perhaps just shifting priorities to maximize efficiency. The 'resource optimization' buzzword is definitely making the rounds.

Definitely not alone. The shift from aggressive growth to belt-tightening has been palpable. Even internal training programs seem to be on the chopping block. It's creating a bit of uncertainty, for sure. People are wondering if this is a temporary recalibration or a sign of bigger changes on the horizon. Keeping an eye on it myself.
