Rumblings at Valero? Anyone else hearing whispers?

Hey everyone, been seeing some odd things lately at Valero and wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing something similar. My department has been told to "optimize" our spending, which seems to translate to "don't buy anything new." Even basic office supplies are getting scrutinized. Also, a few positions that opened up a while back are still frozen – no interviews, no movement. It's creating a bit of a weird atmosphere, you know? Everyone's trying to stay positive, but it's hard when you feel like things are tightening up. Wondering if this is company-wide or just a localized thing. Anyone else noticing budget weirdness or hiring pauses? Curious to hear what others are seeing/hearing. Trying not to jump to conclusions, but the signs are there, right?

Yeah, I've been noticing the same budget tightening across the board. It feels like a pretty significant shift from how things were even six months ago. Lots of 'prioritization' discussions, and anything that isn't mission-critical is definitely on the back burner. The hiring freeze is also pretty palpable; teams are stretched thin and it's impacting project timelines. Definitely a strange vibe.

Interesting to hear you're seeing similar things. 'Optimize spending' is definitely the buzzword these days. It's tough when you're trying to be productive and resources feel restricted. The lack of movement on open roles is also a concern – makes you wonder about future growth or even just filling essential gaps. Hoping it's a temporary measure and things loosen up soon.
