Feeling the culture shift lately?

I’ve been at VeriSign for over five years, and the vibe has definitely soured recently. It feels like every meeting is now focused on 'doing more with less' and cutting costs wherever possible. We’re losing solid talent to competitors who are actually willing to pay market rates, yet the message remains the same: we need to lean out. It feels like we are squeezing the remaining staff until they break. I don’t see a clear vision for growth, just a heavy focus on protecting the bottom line at the expense of employee morale. Are we just coasting now? I honestly don't know how much longer I can keep justifying the burnout when there’s no clear path forward. It feels like the company is just waiting for attrition to do the work of a layoff for them.

I’ve seen this movie before. The 'do more with less' mantra is usually code for 'we don't have a growth strategy, so we're going to starve the ship to boost the quarterly margins.' When management stops investing in the people actually keeping the infrastructure running, it’s only a matter of time before the institutional knowledge walks out the door. It’s frustrating to watch a stable company slowly turn into a revolving door because they refuse to adjust compensation to match the actual market.

Honestly, it feels like the golden era is officially behind us. I’ve noticed the same shift in tone during the all-hands meetings—it’s all about efficiency metrics and cost-cutting instead of innovation. It’s tough to stay motivated when you see talented colleagues leaving every other month for roles that actually value their skill set. If leadership doesn't shift the focus back toward supporting the staff instead of just protecting the bottom line, I’m afraid the brain drain is going to become a permanent reality for this place.
