It is definitely noticeable. The energy has shifted from being mission-driven to being entirely dictated by quarterly targets and headcount management. When you walk the halls now, there is a clear sense of anxiety that wasn't there a year ago. We used to prioritize breakthrough science above all else, but that focus feels secondary to optics and consolidation. It’s tough to maintain that old drive when you see the people you’ve worked alongside for years being let go just to satisfy a margin percentage. The culture is changing, and unfortunately, it feels like we are losing the spirit that made us successful in the first place.
Look, I think we have to be realistic here. Every large biotech reaches a point where efficiency becomes the primary engine of growth, especially as the portfolio matures. While the atmosphere is certainly quieter and more tense, it is just the reality of the current market cycle. Everyone wants to talk about the 'innovation-first' days, but those are luxury times. We are in a consolidation phase now, and while it is uncomfortable, the goal is survival and long-term viability. Focus on your projects and try to tune out the noise—the market rewards the leanest version of this company right now, not the most idealistic.
