Performance review season and the vibe feels... different

Okay, so performance review season is in full swing, and I don't know if it's just me, but the whole process feels a bit more intense and less predictable this year at Vertex. Usually, it's a straightforward conversation about goals and achievements, but this time around, there seems to be a lot more emphasis on 'impact' and 'strategic contribution' in a way that feels a little... scrutinizing? I've heard from a few people in different departments that their reviews have been unusually tough, even for solid performers. It's making me wonder if there's a broader initiative happening behind the scenes. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is it just the usual end-of-year pressure cooker, or is there something more to it? Trying to stay positive, but it's hard when the discourse feels so focused on justification rather than growth.

Yeah, I've definitely felt that shift too. It seems like the criteria are being interpreted more strictly this year, and 'impact' is being defined in a much narrower way than before. It's making it harder to get a clear picture of expectations and how we're measuring up. Hopefully, it's just a temporary adjustment as they roll out whatever new framework they're using.

Interesting to hear others are experiencing this. I was worried it was just my manager being particularly harsh! The focus on 'strategic contribution' feels like it's shifting the goalposts mid-game. It's creating a lot of anxiety, and I'm not sure it's fostering the collaborative environment we usually pride ourselves on. Wonder what the long-term plan is here.
