Strategy shift or quiet cuts?

Is anyone else feeling the weird energy in the office lately? Ever since the new leadership took over, the goalposts have been shifting every single week. My manager keeps pushing these 'efficiency deep dives' and asking us to document every granular task we do in a day. It feels like they’re building a case to offload headcount without actually announcing a formal RIF. I’ve been here for five years and I’ve never seen this level of micro-management. Half the team is paranoid, and the other half is already updating their resumes. Curious if anyone in the UK or regional hubs is seeing this same 'process optimization' push, or if I’m just reading too much into it. Honestly, the lack of transparency is starting to feel like a calculated move to get people to quit voluntarily so they don't have to pay severance.

The 'efficiency deep dive' is classic corporate code for preparing a severance package budget. I survived two rounds of this back in 2021 before the final cull happened. If they are demanding granular task logging, they have already engaged external consultants to benchmark your role against offshore costs. Start documenting your own wins now and refresh your resume immediately. When the internal communication starts getting this vague, trust your gut—the leadership is prioritizing margin expansion over team morale every single time.

Honestly, it feels like Vodafone is just throwing things at the wall to see what sticks lately. The constant pivoting from the top down is exhausting, and this micromanagement phase is usually the final stop before a major reorg. Most people I talk to are just keeping their heads down and doing the bare minimum while scouting for exits elsewhere. It’s a toxic cycle of 'transformation' that never actually transforms anything but the headcount numbers. Don't let them make you feel like you're underperforming; it’s a setup.
