Anyone else seeing the hiring freeze being enforced?

Is it just our region, or is the hiring freeze actually hitting every department now? I’ve seen three open requisitions that were supposedly 'critical' get pulled down off the portal overnight without any backfill plan in place. We’re losing people to attrition, and management just keeps saying 'we’re assessing internal resource allocation' instead of letting us backfill. It feels like they’re trying to force the numbers down through attrition alone to avoid a headline-grabbing reduction. I’m tired of doing the work of two people while being told we need to stay focused on 'operational excellence.' Does anyone know if there’s a directive from corporate, or is this just mid-level managers holding back spend to pad their own end-of-year metrics?

It is definitely not just your region. My department lost two senior leads last month, and their roles were scrubbed from the system within forty-eight hours. The official line about internal resource allocation is just a corporate way of saying they are tightening the belt without wanting to trigger any WARN Act notices or public layoffs. It’s a classic strategy to shrink the headcount by attrition while keeping the remaining team members burning out to cover the gaps. Expect the workload to get even heavier before they admit to any formal restructuring.

Honestly, I’ve been tracking those job postings for a few weeks now. Every time a position hits the portal, it’s gone before the weekend, even for the roles they claimed were business-critical. It’s frustrating because we’re already operating on a skeleton crew, and the expectation remains that we hit the same production targets despite the vacancy rate. At this point, I think leadership has given up on backfilling entirely until the next fiscal quarter at the earliest. Just keep your head down and look out for your own interests while this plays out.
