Suspicious uptick in 'efficiency audits' in our department

Anyone else noticing the consultants hanging around more than usual? They’ve been spending all week in our department tracking hours and asking for detailed breakdowns of our workflows. Every time they walk past my desk, the mood in the room just drops to zero. We’ve been told it’s just for 'process optimization,' but we’ve seen that movie before. Whenever they start counting heads and timing tasks, it usually precedes a major announcement about a 'reduction in force' or a site closure. My team is already stretched thin as it is; if they think they can squeeze even more productivity out of us before doing a round of cuts, they are sorely mistaken. Just looking to see if this is isolated to my facility or if other sites are seeing the same 'efficiency' teams roaming around. It’s impossible to get any actual work done with this much uncertainty hanging over our heads.

We went through this exact same song and dance last year. Those consultants are essentially just there to build a case for the cuts corporate already decided on months ago. They don't actually care about efficiency; they’re strictly hunting for line items to trim. Keep your head down, update your resume, and start networking outside the company immediately. When the 'optimization' talk starts, it’s already too late to change their minds.

It's honestly draining watching them walk around with those clipboards like they actually understand how this place runs. Management loves to throw around buzzwords like 'process optimization' to avoid using the words 'layoffs,' but we all know the drill. If they’re tracking every minute of your day, they’re just looking for an excuse to eliminate roles. Don't waste your energy trying to impress them—just document your output and stay prepared for whatever bad news is inevitably heading your way.
