Starting to look for work again... any tips for Walmart departures?

So, with the recent news, I'm starting to dust off the resume. It's been a while since I've had to seriously job hunt. Been with Walmart for about 7 years, mostly in a management role at one of the larger Bay Area stores. The timing is rough, and I'm a little worried about explaining the layoff, even though it's clearly widespread. Has anyone else gone through this with Walmart recently? Any advice on how to frame it during interviews? What kind of questions are they asking? Feeling a bit rusty on the whole process and trying to prepare myself. Any insider info on what hiring managers are looking for outside of Walmart would be super helpful right now.

Hang in there! Seven years is a significant chunk of time, and management experience is valuable. Don't beat yourself up over the layoff; it's a common situation these days, and most employers understand that. Focus on highlighting your skills and accomplishments from your time there. Maybe emphasize any efficiency improvements you implemented or how you managed teams through challenging periods. Practice explaining it concisely and confidently – 'My role was impacted by company-wide restructuring' should suffice. You've got this!

Honestly, Walmart layoffs are pretty common. Just be direct and factual. 'Company restructuring' is usually enough. The key is to pivot quickly to what you *can* do. What kind of management roles are you looking for now? Focus on the skills that transfer. If you're worried about gaps, frame your resume to show continuous skill development. Most interviewers are just looking to see if you're a good fit for *their* company, not to dig into the specifics of why Walmart let you go unless it seems like a performance issue on your end, which this sounds like it isn't.
