It is honestly disgusting to see these notices drop right before the holidays. Zaslav and the leadership team talk constantly about 'synergies' and 'financial discipline,' but they never seem to address the human cost of these decisions. Cutting staff on Christmas Eve is a special kind of cruelty that really highlights how disconnected the C-suite is from the actual employees keeping the lights on. My heart goes out to everyone affected at the Santa Fe office. This company just keeps losing its soul one layoff at a time, and I really doubt this will be the end of the cuts for Q4.
I have been tracking the internal emails and industry reports all year, and unfortunately, I wouldn't hold my breath for things to settle down before January. The mandate from the top remains laser-focused on cutting debt, and until the balance sheet looks exactly how they want it, nobody is safe regardless of department or location. It is a brutal environment to work in right now, and the constant threat of the next WARN notice makes it impossible to focus on the actual creative work. Hang in there if you are still around, but definitely keep your options open and your resume updated.
