I’ve been through three rounds of layoffs in my department over the last eighteen months, and I can tell you that the 'operational efficiency' talk is just a euphemism for gutting the talent to make the balance sheet look better for a quarter. It’s impossible to be creative or hit deadlines when you’re constantly updating your resume during lunch breaks. Everyone is burnt out, the institutional knowledge is walking out the door, and management acts shocked when projects fall behind schedule. Just do what you need to do to survive, but don't tie your mental health to the long-term success of this company because they certainly aren't tying their success to your job security.
It is exhausting to watch, isn't it? The disconnect between the corporate buzzwords on earnings calls and the actual atmosphere in the office is staggering. They talk about 'synergies' like we’re just numbers on a spreadsheet, completely ignoring the fact that you can’t build a sustainable future when you’re treating your staff as disposable expenses. Don't waste your energy trying to fix the roadmap. Focus on networking, getting your portfolio updated, and detaching yourself from the chaos. This is a sinking ship, and trying to bail out the water while they're actively cutting holes in the hull is only going to drown you faster.
