I'm sorry you're going through this. Unfortunately, from what I've seen in previous rounds of layoffs at other sites, the severance packages are usually strictly tied to years of service according to the standard company policy. Don't expect anything 'enhanced' unless there’s a specific union contract in play. Most people I’ve talked to say the outplacement services are pretty basic, usually just resume review help. Start polishing that LinkedIn profile immediately and look outside the industry. The 'growth' rhetoric is just corporate noise to keep production up while they cut costs behind the scenes.
That is incredibly frustrating, especially after putting in five years of hard work. The disconnect between the town hall speeches and the reality on the ground is exactly why nobody trusts leadership anymore. They love talking about expansion while gutting the teams that actually keep the operations running. Regarding the severance, keep a very close eye on the paperwork they send over. Sometimes they try to bake in non-competes or nondisclosure agreements in exchange for a slightly better payout. Read every line carefully, and if you can, have an employment lawyer look it over before signing anything.
