WM: Anyone else noticing travel/training budget cuts?

Just got word that all non-essential travel is on hold indefinitely at my location. Same for external training programs. This comes right after the 'budget optimization' memo went out last month. It's making me wonder if this is a company-wide thing or just a local decision. My manager was pretty vague, just said 'tightening the belt.' It's hard not to connect these dots with the other threads I've seen about hiring freezes and general belt-tightening. Feels like the precursor to something bigger. Has anyone else experienced similar budget restrictions recently? Curious if this is a signal of wider financial pressures at Waste Management.

Yeah, same here. All my planned trips for the next quarter have been unceremoniously canceled, and our training budget got slashed to practically nothing. My supervisor also mumbled something about 'resource reallocation' and 'focusing on core operations.' It's definitely a company-wide vibe, I think. The hiring freeze announcement last month was just the tip of the iceberg. Feels like we're all just waiting for the other shoe to drop, doesn't it?

Interesting. Haven't heard anything official about travel or training cuts at my site, but honestly, given the whispers about budget optimization and hiring slowdowns, I'm not surprised. My department has been told to prioritize 'critical projects' and delay 'non-revenue generating activities.' Maybe it's just a coincidence, but it sure feels like management is preparing for leaner times. Hopefully, it's just a temporary dip and not a sign of deeper issues.
