Has anyone heard anything about Q3 budget cuts?

I’ve been hearing whispers through the grapevine about a tightening of the purse strings in the operations division. My manager has been acting weird lately—extra cagey about project funding for the upcoming quarter and suddenly canceling all T&E for the rest of the year. Usually, when they pull the plug on travel and training so abruptly, it’s a precursor to a headcount reduction or at least a hiring freeze. Is anyone else noticing their department heads tightening the belt or holding off on backfilling roles? Just trying to gauge if this is isolated to my department or if there’s a company-wide push to make the books look better before the next earnings call. Don’t want to be caught off guard if the HR email drops on a Friday afternoon.

I’ve been seeing the exact same thing in the maintenance department. They suddenly put a stop to all non-essential equipment upgrades and even nixed the budget for our annual safety seminar. It feels like they’re trying to keep the cash flow looking healthy for the quarterly report, but the silence from leadership is what’s really unsettling. When they stop talking about future goals and start focusing exclusively on immediate overhead, you know something is shifting behind the scenes. Keep your head down and start backing up your personal files just in case.
