Is anyone actually safe at WDC right now?

It feels like we’re playing a never-ending game of musical chairs. Every time I log into the portal, I’m half-expecting to see a calendar invite for a 'mandatory all-hands' that turns out to be a mass firing. With the Vancouver cuts just hitting the books, I have to wonder what the strategy is—or if there even is one anymore. Are we just slashing headcount to prop up the stock price for the next earnings call, or is the core business model fundamentally shifting away from what we're building? The morale in my department is absolute zero. I’ve stopped engaging in the 'future growth' workshops because they feel like a total joke while people are being walked out the door. How is everyone else holding up? Is it time to just start mass-applying to competitors, or is the grass looking just as dead everywhere else in tech right now?

Honestly, stop looking for a strategy. At this point, it is purely about quarterly optics and keeping the analysts happy. Leadership is in full defensive mode, bleeding talent to make the balance sheet look leaner while the actual innovation pipeline dries up. If you are waiting for a clear vision, you are going to be waiting a long time. Just keep your resume polished, keep your head down, and don’t take the loyalty talk seriously because you are just a line item to them.

I have been here through enough cycles to know that the silence is the worst part. The 'musical chairs' analogy is spot on. Every time a new group gets the axe, we’re told it’s about 'efficiency,' but it really just feels like they are dismantling the engine while we are still mid-flight. I’ve started quiet quitting because the emotional toll isn't worth the paycheck anymore. Don't waste your energy trying to fix systemic issues; just look out for yourself and get out before your department is next.
