Is the 'restructuring' narrative actually hiding a pivot?

Every time leadership talks about 'strategic alignment' and 'optimizing our portfolio,' I feel like I lose another five years of my life. With another 112 heads cut in WA, it feels like the focus is shifting entirely away from what the engineering teams are actually building and moving toward pure margin protection. I’m tired of the constant uncertainty. It feels like we are just moving chairs on the Titanic while the storage market continues to shift under our feet. I'm curious if anyone else is getting the vibe that they're slowly gutting the R&D side in the States? I've noticed a lot of knowledge transfer requirements to offshore teams lately, and it honestly feels like we’re being asked to train our replacements before they hand us the pink slip. I've started quietly updating my portfolio and reaching out to my recruiter network, because staying here feels like playing a game of musical chairs where the music never actually stops, it just gets quieter. Is anyone else actually seeing meaningful projects happening, or are we just maintaining legacy codebases until someone decides to pull the plug? I’m done with the 'one big happy family' rhetoric when they’re slashing headcount every few months.

It's the same script every single quarter. They talk about 'synergy' and 'market agility' while the engineering culture slowly bleeds out. Anyone who has been here for more than a few years knows that 'restructuring' is just corporate speak for stripping assets to keep the stock price artificially afloat for shareholders. We aren't building a future anymore; we are just maintenance crews keeping the legacy products profitable enough to survive another fiscal cycle. Don't look for a grand pivot—look for the next round of layoffs.

Honestly, the pivot is happening, but it’s not the one we want. The leadership team is clearly prioritizing NAND margins over actual innovation. It’s frustrating because we have some of the best talent in the industry, but our output is being gutted to satisfy analysts who don't understand our architecture. It’s hard to stay motivated when the company treats engineering breakthroughs as liabilities rather than growth engines. At this point, the 'Titanic' analogy feels way too accurate. If you’re feeling the pressure, you aren’t alone—the uncertainty is becoming the only consistent thing about this job.
