Feb 29 WARN notice: Is this the start of a broader trend?

Just saw the official filings for the 68 folks let go on Leap Day at the Savannah facility. It’s always rough seeing that kind of news, especially with how the industry has been moving lately. My concern is that Williams usually doesn't do 'one-off' facility closures without a bigger roadmap for cost-cutting. Has anyone gotten any clarity on whether this is a full exit from that location or if there’s a consolidation happening elsewhere? I have friends still in the midstream side of the house who are worried that these localized layoffs are just the first wave before a more systemic trimming happens across the corporate offices later this year. If you were part of the 68 or have intel on the internal memo, please share what the severance packages looked like. It helps those of us currently looking to know if we should be negotiating harder or just taking the first lifeboat.

I wouldn’t read too much into it as a massive company-wide collapse, but it’s definitely a sign of shifting priorities. Williams has been aggressively tightening their portfolio to focus on high-margin assets, and unfortunately, that usually means consolidating operations that don't fit the new long-term strategy. It’s tough for those affected, but expect more of this internal streamlining as they try to keep margins up in a volatile midstream market. Keep a close eye on their Q1 investor materials for any mention of asset optimization or further site assessments.

That news hit everyone pretty hard, and the silence from corporate is honestly the most frustrating part. When you start seeing these localized WARN notices, it rarely happens in a vacuum. I’ve been through these cycles before, and usually, it’s just the beginning of a broader efficiency play meant to impress the street before the next earnings call. If you’ve got people on the inside, tell them to prepare for a lot of internal restructuring over the next few months. It's likely less about a total exit and more about ruthless cost-cutting to pad the bottom line.
