Feeling the pressure to do more with less

It’s becoming increasingly clear that the 'do more with less' motto isn't just corporate speak anymore—it's become our daily reality. I’m exhausted. The amount of churn we’re seeing in my department is ridiculous, and yet management keeps piling on new initiatives like we have infinite capacity. Every week there’s another 'process improvement' meeting that somehow makes the actual work take twice as long. If they’re planning to restructure, I almost wish they’d just rip the band-aid off instead of letting us slowly burn out trying to cover the gaps left by people who have already quietly quit or moved on to other utilities. The morale in my group is hitting an all-time low, and frankly, I don't see how this is sustainable for another fiscal year. Is anyone else feeling like they’re being set up to fail so they have an excuse to cut headcount later? It’s getting hard to justify the stress for the current compensation level.

I feel you on the 'process improvement' meetings. It feels like every time they try to streamline things, they just add three extra layers of documentation that serve no purpose other than to justify someone’s middle management salary. We are all running on fumes here, and the constant turnover is making it impossible to keep up with the workload. It’s draining to watch good people walk out the door while leadership pretends everything is fine as long as the metrics look okay on a slide deck. If they are planning a restructure, let’s get it over with so we can stop living in this state of permanent anxiety.

That hit home. The company culture has shifted so much recently that I barely recognize the team I joined a few years ago. It’s hard to stay motivated when the goalposts move every single day and the resources are constantly being slashed in the name of efficiency. My entire department is suffering from burnout because we are covering the gaps left by everyone who has already jumped ship. Management talks about sustainability in their public campaigns, but they clearly don't apply that same logic to their own employees. I’m honestly just counting down the days until I can find something more stable.
