Management keeping quiet about 2024 headcount reduction strategy

Is anyone else feeling like the communication from leadership has been total radio silence lately? We all saw the notice regarding the 28 folks in Eau Claire back in February, but there's been almost zero transparency about whether that was the end of it or if there’s another wave coming. Every time we have an All-Hands, they just talk about infrastructure investments and reliability metrics while completely dodging questions about staffing levels in the chat. It feels like they’re trying to run us lean to keep the shareholders happy, but it’s making the day-to-day operations unsustainable for those of us left holding the bag. I’ve been hearing whispers about further departmental consolidations, but nobody knows what’s fact and what’s just rumors floating around the breakroom. If you have any inside info on whether or not your specific division is looking at more cuts, please share. The lack of clarity is honestly more stressful than the actual layoff itself.

It is honestly exhausting to hear the same canned speech about infrastructure every time the chat is blowing up with questions about layoffs. They know exactly what they are doing by ignoring us. If they were planning on being transparent, they would have addressed the future of the workforce months ago. Instead, we are all just sitting here waiting for the other shoe to drop while management pretends everything is business as usual. The lack of respect for our stability is becoming impossible to ignore.

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for a straight answer. Corporate leadership rarely confirms headcount adjustments until the day they are handing out envelopes. They view us as line items on a spreadsheet, so as long as the grid remains stable, they aren't going to volunteer any information that might hurt morale or stock prices. Keep your resume polished and your LinkedIn active because looking out for yourself is the only strategy that actually matters right now. Don't count on them to give you a heads-up.
