Xcel Energy - Anyone else feeling the budget squeeze?

Been at Xcel for about 5 years and the atmosphere feels different this quarter. Usually, there's a pretty clear budget for training and development, but my requests are getting shot down left and right with vague 'budgetary constraints.' Same goes for travel expenses – suddenly everything needs multiple levels of approval. Even team lunches are being discouraged. It feels like the purse strings are being tightened significantly across the board. I haven't heard any direct layoff talk, but this kind of belt-tightening often precedes bigger changes in a company. It's making it hard to plan for the future, both personally and professionally. Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just my specific division? Trying to gauge if this is a company-wide directive or a localized issue. Any insights would be appreciated.

Yeah, I've definitely noticed the same thing. My department's been told to hold off on any non-essential purchases, and even things we used to get approved easily are now facing intense scrutiny. It's making planning projects a lot harder when you don't know if you'll actually have the resources to execute them. Hopefully, this is just a temporary belt-tightening measure and not a sign of bigger issues down the line.

I'm on the same page. It feels like a significant shift from how things were even a year ago. The pushback on seemingly small expenses makes you wonder what's really going on behind the scenes. It’s creating a bit of anxiety, for sure, especially when you rely on those training opportunities to keep skills sharp. Keeping my fingers crossed for some clarity soon.
