Quiet period extending into Q3—anyone else feeling uneasy?

Is it just me, or has the atmosphere at the office become incredibly stiff lately? Usually, by this time of year, we have a clear roadmap for the upcoming cycles, but everything feels like it's stuck in limbo. I’ve noticed several senior managers dodging direct questions about headcount during team syncs, and the vague 'optimizing resources' language is starting to ramp up in the internal comms. It feels like we are in a holding pattern waiting for the other shoe to drop. I’ve been keeping my LinkedIn updated just in case, but I’d love to know if anyone in the hardware or software divisions has heard anything concrete. The silence from leadership is usually the loudest signal we get before they start tightening the belt. Are we expecting another round of 'voluntary' departures disguised as restructuring, or is the budget actually as frozen as it looks?

The 'optimizing resources' buzzword is always the biggest red flag. I've been through a few cycles like this at Zebra, and it rarely ends with everything staying the same. When the roadmaps go dark and leadership stops giving straight answers about headcount, it’s usually a sign that Finance is crunching the numbers for a potential RIF. If you're feeling uneasy, trust your gut. It’s never a bad time to update your resume and start testing the market while you’re still employed. Don’t wait for the official announcement to start preparing your exit plan.

I think everyone is just burned out from the constant pivots lately. It’s definitely stiff, but I’m choosing to view the quiet period as a necessary reset rather than an omen of doom. We’ve been running at breakneck speed for so long that a bit of silence feels weird, but it’s probably just a strategic pause while they sort out the logistics for the next phase. Maybe stop overthinking the vague comms and focus on finishing your current tasks. If something were actually going down, the signs would be much more obvious than just a few quiet meetings.
