Is the pipeline drying up or is leadership just panicking?

It feels like every quarter we get a new 'efficiency' initiative that just ends up being a fancy way to trim the headcount. I’ve been at Zoetis for five years, and the atmosphere has shifted from a focus on innovation to constant anxiety about who is next on the chopping block. We keep hearing about the strength of our portfolio, but if the business is supposedly growing, why are we seeing these steady cuts in Neptune City and elsewhere? It’s hard to stay motivated when you’re constantly wondering if your team’s project is going to be the next one gutted to make the margins look slightly better for the analysts. Does anyone actually believe the 'One Zoetis' rhetoric anymore, or is it just HR speak to keep us quiet while they restructure? I’m exhausted by the 'do more with less' mantra. At this point, it feels like the institutional knowledge is walking out the door every few months and we’re just left picking up the pieces.

The shift in culture is palpable. It used to feel like we were working toward long-term veterinary breakthroughs, but now every town hall meeting is just a masterclass in corporate doublespeak. If the numbers are as good as leadership claims, these constant restructurings make zero sense. Management is trading our institutional knowledge for short-term margin bumps, and it is killing the morale of the people actually doing the research. Everyone I know is just keeping their head down and polishing their resume at this point.

You are spot on about the atmosphere. The disconnect between the executive rhetoric about 'portfolio strength' and the actual reality of the layoffs is massive. When you strip away the layers of middle management and R&D support staff, you aren't just 'increasing efficiency,' you are actively hollowing out the future pipeline. It is frustrating to watch them prioritize stock buybacks and quarterly guidance over the actual people who built this company's reputation. The anxiety in the hallways is a direct result of leadership failing to be transparent.
