Is anyone actually safe after this latest round?

After seeing the WARN notice drop for the Schaumburg site today, I’m genuinely wondering where the 'synergy' ends. We keep hearing about Abbott being a 'stable' healthcare giant, but it feels like every six months there’s a new round of restructuring. Is there any department currently immune to this, or is the strategy just to keep us all in a perpetual state of anxiety so we don't ask for raises? I’m in one of the divisions that wasn't hit this time, but the morale here is in the basement. It feels like we’re just waiting for the next shoe to drop. The workload has been insane for the last two quarters, and with 400+ people gone, I can only imagine how much heavier the burden is going to be for the people left behind. How is everyone handling the stress? Do we think this is it for the year, or is this just the first wave? I'm already polishing my resume—better to have it ready than to be caught off guard when they decide to 'optimize' our team next.

The 'stability' Abbott markets to investors is a complete joke compared to the reality on the ground. Every time they talk about operational efficiency or synergy, they’re really just looking for ways to trim the workforce and protect margins. If you aren't currently being targeted, just treat it as a temporary stay of execution rather than job security. The company has moved away from valuing long-term talent, opting instead for a revolving door model that keeps everyone terrified and compliant. Don't waste energy hoping for immunity; start polishing your resume now.

I've been here long enough to see these cycles repeat, and honestly, the anxiety is the point. Management knows that if we're constantly looking over our shoulders, we won't be looking for opportunities elsewhere or demanding better compensation. It’s a calculated move to keep labor costs stagnant while the stock price stays inflated. The morale in the office is toxic because everyone knows their name could be on the next list regardless of their performance or tenure. It’s time to stop waiting for the 'stability' they promise and start protecting your own career.
