Performance review cycle feels... different this year

So, the annual performance reviews are underway, and I'm getting a weird vibe. Usually, it's pretty straightforward, discussing goals and achievements. This year, however, there's a much heavier emphasis on 'future potential' and 'skill alignment with evolving business needs.' It feels less like a review of past performance and more like an evaluation of whether you fit into some hypothetical future structure. My manager was very cagey when I asked for specifics about what these 'evolving needs' actually entail. Anyone else experiencing this? Makes you wonder what the criteria for 'fit' are becoming.

Sounds like a classic corporate shift. They're probably trying to proactively reshape teams for upcoming strategic pivots, maybe related to new product lines or market changes. It's a bit unsettling when it feels like your past contributions aren't the main focus, but it might be a sign they're thinking long-term about how to stay competitive. Try to frame your discussion around how your existing skills can *adapt* to these future needs, rather than just defending your past performance. Good luck navigating it!
