Questioning the recent push for 'efficiency' - anyone else seeing this?

There's been a lot of talk recently about 'streamlining processes' and 'optimizing workflows' across different departments. On the surface, it sounds good, but in practice, it feels like it's translating into even more work being piled onto the same people. We're being encouraged to find 'efficiencies' which often means cutting corners or doing more with less, rather than actually addressing resource constraints. It's making me a bit nervous about the long-term sustainability of our workload and whether this is a precursor to something else. Anyone else interpreting these 'efficiency' drives similarly?

I'm right there with you. It feels like the 'efficiency' push is just a buzzword to justify cutting headcount indirectly. Instead of investing in proper tools or additional staff to genuinely improve workflow, we're just expected to magically do more with less. It's demoralizing to see the same tasks take longer because people are stretched too thin, and then be told we're not being 'efficient' enough. Hoping leadership actually sees the strain this is putting on the teams.

Interesting to hear others are feeling this too. My department's version of 'efficiency' has been a lot of mandatory 'training' sessions that eat up productive hours, and a vague directive to 're-evaluate priorities' which basically means figuring out how to fit the old work into fewer hours. It's creating a lot of anxiety about hitting targets when the actual resources aren't there. Feels like a treadmill that's just speeding up without a clear destination.
