Anyone else seeing a hiring freeze outside of 'essential' roles?

Been hearing a lot of chatter internally about a pretty strict hiring freeze, but it seems like they're still hiring for very specific, 'critical' roles. Feels like a classic pre-layoff signal. My team's been told no new headcount for months, but I keep seeing requisitions pop up for other departments that seem really niche. Just trying to gauge if this is widespread or if I'm just in a department that's on the chopping block. Anyone else's teams in a similar boat? Seeing any unusual requisition activity in your areas? Trying to stay ahead of any potential bad news.

Yeah, definitely seeing something similar. My department's been told to hold off on any new hires unless it's absolutely mission-critical. It's a bit unnerving when you see other roles being posted, though. Makes you wonder what the priorities really are and if some areas are being quietly downsized while others are still being built up. The lack of transparency is the worst part, makes it hard to get a clear picture of what's going on.
