Manager suddenly super interested in 'streamlining' my team's workload.

My manager called me into a private meeting yesterday. Normally, these are about project updates, but this felt… different. They kept asking detailed questions about my individual tasks, who does what on my immediate team, and how long each process takes. When I asked why, they said something about "optimizing resource allocation" and "ensuring maximum productivity." They also mentioned something about "evaluating current team structures to better support upcoming goals." Sounds like a lot of corporate speak for 'figuring out who's doing what so they can get rid of some people.' It's not just my team; I've heard similar stories from folks on other departments too. No official announcement, no all-hands about layoffs, but this feels like the prelude. Anyone else experiencing this level of 'efficiency review' from their management?

Hearing more 'synergy' talk than usual. Anyone else picking up what I'm putting down?

Hey everyone, been here a while and the amount of "synergy" and "efficiency" talk in all-hands meetings lately is really starting to make me uneasy. It feels like a lot of corporate buzzwords are being thrown around to soften a blow. Last week, my manager was super vague about project roadmaps for Q2, just kept saying "we need to align with broader strategic initiatives." Which initiatives? What does "align" mean in practice? Is it just me, or does it feel like they're prepping the ground for something? Saw some chatter on other sites about potential cuts, but nothing concrete for us specifically. Just trying to gauge if this is a company-wide vibe or if I'm overthinking it. Is anyone else noticing this, or have heard any more direct (even if unofficial) information?

Feeling like we're being set up for failure on the Q4 goals

Seriously, the targets for the end of the year across multiple studios seem completely unattainable. We've lost key people recently (even if not officially 'layoffs' yet, they're gone), budgets are tighter than ever, and the project scope hasn't decreased. My manager keeps talking about 'driving efficiency' and 'optimizing workflows,' but it feels more like they're just setting us up to miss targets so they can justify cuts later. Anyone else in a similar boat? It's incredibly demotivating when you know the goalposts are impossible to reach. Makes you wonder what the actual plan is.

Anyone else's benefits package feeling suddenly less robust?

Just got my benefits enrollment info for next year and it feels like a lot more has been cut or phased out compared to previous years. Lower coverage on some things, higher deductibles, and it seems like some of the perks we used to have are just... gone. Is this just me, or is the company quietly trimming everything they can? It feels like a slow bleed, and frankly, with all the other weirdness going on, it's making me nervous about where the company's financial health really stands. Anyone else noticed this or looked into the details?

What's the real status of our stock options right now?

With all the talk and the general uncertainty, I'm trying to get a clear picture of our stock options. Are they still worth what they were? Is there any analyst chatter about how the current climate might affect their future value? It's hard to focus when you don't know where the long-term financial ground is. My understanding is pretty basic, and nobody at work is really talking about it openly. Feels like a bit of a black box right now. Anyone have insights or resources for understanding our compensation package better in this environment?

Project cancellations really ramping up?

Been seeing a bunch of projects I thought were pretty stable suddenly get put on indefinite hold or just straight-up cancelled. Usually, there's at least some kind of announcement or explanation, even if it's vague, but lately it's just... poof. My manager is being super cagey about it, just saying 'shifting priorities.' It feels like more than just shifting priorities though. Anyone else's teams seeing major project droughts or cancellations out of the blue?

Internal 'reorg' seemed weirdly secretive.

So, we had that all-hands meeting last week where they talked about a 'strategic realignment.' Sounded like corporate speak for something else, you know? They were super vague about what it actually means for day-to-day operations, but there was this undercurrent of… tension. People were asking questions about team structures and project continuity, and the answers were always evasive. My skip-level just brushed it off as 'standard business evolution.' But then I noticed a bunch of older projects being quietly archived on the shared drives, and some key people in certain departments are suddenly working remotely full-time, even though they used to be in the office. Feels like something is brewing that they don't want to broadcast.

Anyone else feeling the pressure to hit impossible metrics lately?

Seriously, what's going on? It feels like our targets have been jacked up across the board with no real justification. My manager is riding us constantly about 'efficiency' and 'productivity', but the resources aren't there. It's like they're setting us up to fail. I'm starting to wonder if this is just a way to justify making cuts down the line. Has anyone else experienced this sudden shift in expectations? It's incredibly stressful, and I'm not sure how much longer I can keep this up. Feels like we're being squeezed dry.

Been hearing whispers about contract terminations starting.

Okay, so I haven't seen any official announcements, but I've been hearing from people in recruiting and a few different departments that they're starting to let go of contractors. Not the usual end-of-project stuff, but seemingly out of the blue. One friend who works on a critical backend system said their entire team of contract devs just got notice their contracts won't be renewed, effective end of next month. It's making me super nervous, even though I'm full-time. It feels like they're testing the waters or trying to cut costs in less visible ways first. Anyone else hearing similar things? Is this a precursor to something bigger for the full-time folks?

Company-wide email about 'restructuring' felt…off.

So, we got that all-hands meeting today, and the VP was talking about 'streamlining operations' and 'optimizing our structure for future growth.' Standard corporate speak, right? But the vibe in the chat and among colleagues afterwards was pretty heavy. No direct mention of layoffs, but the language used felt like a prelude. Anyone else pick up on that? It felt like they were carefully choosing words to avoid saying the 'L' word. My manager has been super cagey about new project timelines too, just saying 'wait for clarity.' It’s making it hard to plan anything. Wondering if this is happening elsewhere or if it's just our division feeling the squeeze.

Wondering about severance packages if it comes to it...

Okay, so I know there haven't been official announcements, but with all the whispers and the general vibe, I'm starting to think about worst-case scenarios. For those who have been through layoffs at other gaming companies, or even at ABK before, what's a typical severance package like? I'm in a mid-level engineering role, been here for 3 years. Just trying to get a realistic idea of what to expect in terms of weeks per year of service, health insurance continuation, etc. Trying not to panic, but also want to be informed if things go sideways. Any info would be appreciated.

Anyone else seeing major budget cuts across departments?

Been with the company for about 5 years now, mostly on the publishing side. Lately, it feels like every non-essential spend is being scrutinized with a fine-tooth comb. My team's had two big projects we were hoping to get greenlit for next quarter suddenly put on indefinite hold, and the explanation was just 'budget realignment.' We're talking about things that were already approved and budgeted for. Feels like a weird precursor to something bigger, given how tight things are getting. Anyone else hearing similar things or seeing departments get their funding slashed? Trying to gauge if this is company-wide or just specific to our division.

Seeing a LOT of jobs being reposted - bad sign?

I'm in recruiting for one of the studios, and usually when a role is open for a bit, it just sits. But lately, I've seen several postings that were closed or inactive for months suddenly get relisted. Like, 3-4 roles across different departments are back up. At first I thought maybe they just weren't finding the right fit, but seeing multiple ones pop up again feels... off. It's like they're trying to fill spots that maybe they already planned to cut, or like they're consolidating teams and these are newly opened requisitions for the 'new' structure. Anyone else in a similar role noticing this? Feels like a weird signal.

Anyone else getting 'performance improvement' talks out of nowhere?

Been in QA for about 4 years now, mostly on the Diablo side. Everything's been chill, hitting targets, good feedback. Suddenly last week my lead calls me in and wants to put me on a 'performance improvement plan.' Says it's 'standard procedure' but it feels totally out of the blue. No warnings, no prior discussions about needing improvement. Just BAM, PIP. Makes me wonder if this is just a way to clear people out quietly before any actual *official* layoffs happen. Anyone else in a similar boat? What's the deal?

What's the deal with the hiring freeze rumors? Seeing jobs disappear from the portal.

I've been keeping an eye on open roles because I was thinking about moving departments after 3 years on my current team. A few weeks ago, there were several openings that looked interesting, but now they're just... gone. Marked as 'filled' or just vanished. My manager brushed it off when I asked, but it feels like more than just normal attrition. Has anyone else noticed this? Are they quietly freezing external hires and maybe even internal moves? This uncertainty is killing me. Just want to know what the landscape looks like.

Anyone else's team suddenly scrambling to document everything?

Seriously, for the past week or two, my whole team has been in overdrive trying to get all our processes, codebases, and project histories documented. It feels like someone lit a fire under us, but nobody's actually *telling* us why. My manager is being super vague, just saying 'proactive measures' and 'ensuring knowledge continuity.' It's giving me major anxiety. I've been in QA here for 4 years and this sudden push feels different from our usual cycles. Feels like we're prepping for something big, and not in a good way. Anyone else's department suddenly turn into documentation fanatics?

Anyone actually prep for interviews here?

So, with all the general unease floating around, I've been thinking about what I'd actually do if the worst happened. I haven't seriously interviewed in like 5 years since I joined ABK. My skills feel rusty and honestly, I'm not even sure what kind of questions they even ask anymore for senior engineer roles these days. Are people here actively doing mock interviews or brushing up on LeetCode? Or are we all just kinda hoping for the best? Feels like a good time to at least have a plan B ready, even if I don't want to use it. Any tips on resources or what companies are even looking right now?

Is it just me or are internal transfers drying up?

Been trying to move to a different team for like 6 months now. Usually, there are always openings and people moving around, especially from my area (QA). But lately, it feels like a total freeze. Checked internal job board and the same few roles have been posted forever. My manager is hinting at 'efficiency improvements' which sounds like a nice way of saying 'we're not hiring externally or internally right now'. Anyone else notice this? It's making me think about polishing up my resume for real this time, which I really didn't want to do. Just feels like the internal ladder is broken.

LinkedIn Learning courses worth anything for getting a new job?

Okay, so IF the worst happens, and layoffs come, I want to be prepared. My role is pretty niche, mostly focused on backend stuff for WoW. I'm not sure how marketable my skills are outside of gaming companies. I have access to LinkedIn Learning through my employee benefits. Has anyone actually landed a job after taking one of their courses? Specifically, I'm looking at some Python and AWS cert prep stuff. Or is it just a waste of time? Should I be focusing on LeetCode instead? Any advice from people who've successfully transitioned out of Activision Blizzard would be greatly appreciated. Salary expectations are also a big question mark for me, given the specialized nature of my current role.

Just saw a bunch of HR people walking around... feeling sick

I'm on the animation team in Blizzard, been here almost 7 years. Usually they just send emails for company-wide stuff, but I just saw like, 4 people from HR walking around with serious faces. They went into my manager's office, and the door's been closed for like 20 minutes. I have a really bad feeling. I know the stock hasn't been great, and with the Microsoft merger finally happening... I just... ugh. Anyone else seeing weird stuff today? I'm honestly considering just packing up and going home. Can't focus on anything right now. Seriously considering updating my resume AGAIN. This sucks.

Been grinding for years, feel totally used

Seriously, I'm so burnt out. I poured my heart and soul into this company for the last six years, worked countless nights and weekends to meet insane deadlines, and for what? To be constantly worrying about getting the axe? The corporate BS is suffocating. We're constantly told how 'valued' we are, but actions speak louder than words. The higher-ups get their bonuses while the rest of us are scrambling, and now they're talking about restructuring... which we all know means layoffs. I'm so over the corporate greed and the complete lack of empathy. If they cut my team, I swear I'm never touching another Blizzard game again. Rant over.

Severance package - what to expect?

Okay, so let's say the worst happens and layoffs DO hit. What can we realistically expect in terms of severance? I've heard whispers of two weeks per year of service, but that seems kinda low compared to other tech companies. Does anyone have firsthand experience from past Activision Blizzard layoffs, or even general knowledge about California severance laws? I'm trying to mentally prepare myself financially, and any insights would be greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone know if they typically offer outplacement services or career counseling?

Heard rumblings about 'restructuring' in Irvine. Anyone else?

I've been at Blizzard in Irvine for almost 8 years now, on the marketing side for the Diablo franchise. Lately, things have felt... off. My manager has been in back-to-back meetings with HR, and the VP of our department seems super stressed. There's been a lot of talk about 'restructuring' and 'streamlining' in the hallways. I'm getting a really bad feeling that layoffs are coming. Has anyone else heard anything similar, especially in Irvine? Are specific departments being targeted? I'm starting to update my resume just in case, but the uncertainty is killing me.

This freaking sucks, I'm so tired of the constant uncertainty

Seriously, can upper management just make up their minds already? Every other week there's another rumor, another restructuring, another round of 're-evaluation'. I'm on the QA team, and honestly, we're always the first to go, aren't we? It's exhausting trying to stay motivated and passionate about my work when I'm constantly worried about losing my job. I bust my butt testing these games, finding bugs, and trying to make them better, and what do I get? The feeling like I'm disposable. I love working in gaming, I really do, but this constant fear is eating me alive. Anyone else just completely burnt out?

Severance Package Question - California Folks?

Hypothetically speaking, if layoffs *were* to happen in California, what's the standard severance package at Activision Blizzard? I've heard mixed things – some people say it's two weeks per year of service, others say it's more generous, especially for longer-term employees. I'm trying to get a sense of what to expect in a worst-case scenario. Any insights or experiences you can share (anonymously, of course) would be greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone know if they factor in unused PTO? Thanks!

Anyone else feeling nervous about potential Q4 cuts?

Okay, so I know nothing is confirmed, but I've been at Blizzard for almost 8 years now, and this year feels different. The vibe is off. Project X got canned last month and everyone on that team was 're-assigned', but mostly just seem to be twiddling their thumbs. I'm on the marketing team for Diablo, and even we're feeling the squeeze – budget cuts across the board. Usually Q4 is when we're ramping UP for the holidays, not pinching pennies. Anyone else hearing whispers or seeing signs? Am I just being paranoid?

Seriously, enough with the 'synergy' talk!

I'm so sick of hearing the word 'synergy' from management. Every meeting is just a bunch of corporate buzzwords and empty promises about how we're all 'one big family' now that Microsoft's in charge. Meanwhile, people are being quietly reassigned, projects are getting canceled, and no one seems to know what's actually going on. If they're planning layoffs, just be upfront about it! The constant uncertainty is way more stressful than just knowing where you stand. Honestly, the whole thing feels like a bad joke. I've put 10 years into this company, and this is how they treat us? It's infuriating.
