Quiet period extending or are we just coasting?

Is anyone else feeling the weird energy in the office lately? It feels like we’re in a constant state of limbo. Every time a meeting gets put on the calendar with HR, my stomach drops, but then it’s just another 'synergy' or 'operational excellence' update that could have been an email. No formal announcements about RIFs, but the lack of new headcount approvals is starting to show. My team is underwater with the current workload, yet we’re being told to 'do more with less' and focus on efficiency. Are we just waiting for the next earnings call to see who stays and who goes? The silence from leadership is honestly louder than any actual news would be at this point. It makes it hard to focus on long-term projects when you’re wondering if you’ll even be here to see them through Q4.

The 'synergy' buzzwords are usually a massive red flag. Management loves to talk about operational excellence while ignoring the fact that teams are burning out. When they stop replacing headcount but keep pushing the same project deadlines, it’s not just a quiet period—it’s a slow-motion squeeze. I’d trust your gut feeling on the energy shift. Start updating your resume quietly because the 'do more with less' mantra rarely leads to anything positive in the long run.

Honestly, it feels like we are in a holding pattern waiting for the other shoe to drop. The silence from leadership is arguably worse than an outright announcement. Everyone is on edge, and the constant vague updates about efficiency are just a way to keep us compliant while they figure out the next cost-cutting move. If you’re already feeling the burnout, definitely take a step back and prioritize your own sanity over these nebulous company goals. Don't let them burn you out before you have a solid exit plan.
