The internal transfer portal is a ghost town

I’ve been checking the internal career site regularly over the past month, and I swear, almost nothing is moving. Even the usual backfill roles have been pulled down or frozen. People keep saying Aon is stable, but the hiring freeze feels way more aggressive than they’re letting on. A friend of mine in HR mentioned they’re re-evaluating the org chart for the next quarter, and we all know what that usually means. If they aren’t hiring, they’re preparing for a transition. I’ve started reaching out to external recruiters because I don’t want to be the one left holding the bag when the 'restructuring' announcement drops. If you’re banking on an internal move to save your seat, I’d strongly suggest looking elsewhere.

I’ve noticed the same thing. The internal board has been stagnant for weeks, and it’s definitely unnerving. You’re smart to start looking elsewhere now. Whenever management starts talking about 're-evaluating the org chart' while simultaneously locking down all hiring, it’s rarely a sign of growth. I’ve heard whispers of consolidation in some of the regional offices, and the silence from leadership is only making people more anxious. Better to have a backup plan ready before they decide to pull the rug out from under us with another round of restructuring.

It’s been radio silence on my team too, despite being told we’re fully staffed. That excuse doesn't hold up when we’re drowning in work. The fact that the transfer portal is basically a graveyard is the biggest red flag. I think you’re right to be cautious; the lack of backfilling isn't an accident, it’s a strategy to keep headcount artificially low before the next quarter hits. I've already updated my resume and reached out to a few recruiters. Trust your gut—if it feels like they’re preparing for a shift, they probably are.
