Been actively applying elsewhere - anyone have luck with FAANG compensation lately?

Okay, so the writing is on the wall, and I'm not taking chances. I've been quietly interviewing with a few other big tech companies, mostly focusing on Meta and Google. What kind of TC (Total Compensation) are folks seeing out there right now for senior roles (like Principal Engineer)? I'm hearing a lot of mixed signals – some say it's still high, others claim it's come down significantly. Trying to get a realistic benchmark for what I should be aiming for if I were to jump ship. My current role here is fairly senior, 12 years at Apple, and I want to make sure I'm not leaving money on the table if I do end up needing to find a new gig.

Hey man, totally understand the feeling. I've seen some recent data points from levels.fyi and Blind that suggest TC might have plateaued or slightly dipped from the peak for many senior SWE roles, especially at the mid-to-higher end of the bands. However, for truly exceptional candidates or in niche areas, there's still definitely room for strong negotiation. Don't undersell yourself, but also be realistic about the current market conditions. Good luck with the interviews!

Honestly, 'FAANG' is a bit of a dinosaur term now. Competition is fierce, and while compensation is still good, the days of astronomical offers without serious justification are likely behind us for most roles. Focus on demonstrating your impact and value proposition clearly in your interviews. I'd aim for a well-rounded offer that includes base, bonus, and stock, and benchmark against specific roles and companies rather than a broad 'FAANG' number. Heard some recent L6/L7 offers for Principal Engineer roles hovering around $350k-$500k TC depending on location and stock performance, but that's highly variable.
