Considering leaving before the axe falls - good idea?

Okay, so the writing's on the wall, right? No official announcement, but the vibes are awful. I'm a PM in the services division, and frankly, I'm exhausted from the constant uncertainty. I've got about 8 years under my belt at Apple, which is great, but my resume is probably getting stale. I'm seriously considering jumping ship *before* any potential layoffs happen. My logic is: I'd rather leave on my own terms, with a new job lined up, than be forced out and scramble for something later. Plus, maybe I can negotiate a better salary elsewhere right now. Am I crazy to leave a (supposedly) stable job, or is this the smart move? Anyone else in a similar boat? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Sounds like a smart move. Better to be proactive than reactive in this situation. Eight years is a good run, but tech moves fast. Freshening up your skills and getting ahead of the curve is never a bad idea. Even if the layoffs *don't* happen, you'll be in a stronger position overall with a recent job hunt under your belt and a potential offer to negotiate with.

I get the fear, but grass isn't always greener. Layoffs are *always* a possibility in big tech. Jumping now might mean taking a less desirable role just to escape. Have you considered talking to your manager, even informally? Maybe gauge the actual temperature of things. A frank conversation could offer some clarity, or at least buy you time to network internally for a safer transfer.
