Is it just me, or is internal mobility completely dead?

Seriously, I've been trying to move teams for months. Applied to like 5 different roles, even went through a couple of first rounds. But crickets. Either the roles are fake, or they're only looking at external candidates for some reason. My manager is super supportive and says they'll advocate, but even they seem to be hitting a wall. Feels like any open req is just a formality. Anyone else experiencing this? It's making me nervous about long-term prospects here if I can't even switch gears internally. Am I missing something?

Yeah, I've felt this too. Been trying to get into a more product-focused role for over six months now. The internal site feels more like a museum than a job board sometimes. My manager is great and tries to help, but it feels like there's a bottleneck somewhere. It's frustrating because I know there are talented people here who could do these jobs, but for some reason, they're prioritizing external hires or making it so difficult internally. Makes you wonder what the point of offering internal mobility is if it's this hard to achieve.

Honestly, I'm not surprised. The market is rough, and companies often default to what they think is the path of least resistance, which can sometimes mean bringing in fresh blood from outside. Internal moves require a whole different kind of coordination and risk assessment that hiring externally might bypass, even if it's not actually better in the long run. Have you tried networking more actively with hiring managers in the teams you're interested in, even outside of formal applications? Sometimes a personal connection can break through the 'crickets'.
