My manager's team is apparently safe... for now?

Hearing a lot of chatter, as usual. My immediate manager's team seems to be in the clear based on what they're saying, but that's usually the last to know, right? They've been talking about 'synergies' and 'streamlining' for months in some orgs, but my direct reporting line hasn't felt a thing yet. Anyone else in a similar boat where their specific silo feels like it's being insulated, or is that just wishful thinking? Feels weird to see other teams getting hit and ours is just... humming along. Not sure if that's a good sign or just means we're on the chopping block later. I'm in Product Marketing, about 5 years in.

Yeah, I've seen this before. The 'humming along' phase is often followed by a sudden 'reorg' announcement. It's classic corporate speak. Don't get too comfortable, but also don't panic. Keep doing your job well, document your contributions, and network internally. Sometimes 'safe' just means you haven't been on the radar yet, and that can change in an instant. Listen to what people are saying, but trust your own observations more.

Interesting. My team was in a similar 'safe' zone for a while, then suddenly we were merged with another group and half the people were gone. It's like they let the rumor mill churn and then surprise you. 'Synergies' and 'streamlining' are usually code for 'cutting costs.' Keep your resume updated, just in case. It's better to be prepared than caught off guard. Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.
