Severance Packages and The New 'Performance' Pivot

Has anyone actually gone through the paperwork for the severance offer yet? I’m hearing conflicting things from HR. Some people are saying they’re being pushed to sign immediately, while others are holding out for legal review. I’ve been through a few cycles in my career, but the way they’re framing these departures as 'performance-based' is a total slap in the face. It’s clearly a budget exercise masquerading as a talent cull. I know people who just got an 'Exceeds' rating last cycle and are suddenly being told they aren't a 'fit' for the new organizational structure. If you’re affected, don't let them rush you. Take the documents home, read them carefully, and consult an employment lawyer if you have any questions about the non-disparagement clauses. It’s a sad day when the company with the biggest cash pile in the world decides that treating people with dignity is an optional expense. Stay strong, everyone. Update this thread if you hear anything about the duration of the COBRA coverage or equity vesting for those of us caught in this mess.

Don't sign anything until you’ve had an employment lawyer look it over. Apple’s HR is notorious for applying pressure during these transitions to get you to waive your right to sue. If you’re being labeled as performance-based despite having an 'Exceeds' rating, you have clear grounds to negotiate a better severance or at least contest the narrative. They bank on people being too shell-shocked or scared to push back, but once you sign, that leverage disappears instantly. Take the extra time and document everything while you still have access to your internal performance reviews.
