Anyone else feel like a sitting duck in Network Engineering?

I've been with AT&T for almost 10 years, all in network engineering. Lately, things have been... weird. Projects are getting cancelled or put on indefinite hold, and I'm hearing whispers from my manager about 'restructuring' and 'optimizing resources.' Honestly, it sounds like layoff code to me. I'm starting to get a really bad feeling about this. Anyone else in a similar boat, especially in the network side of things? I'm trying to figure out if it's just my team or a bigger company-wide thing. Trying to decide if I should start updating my resume and proactively applying for other jobs, or if I'm just being paranoid. The constant uncertainty is killing me.

I hear you. Been there, done that at another large telecom. 'Restructuring' and 'optimizing resources' are classic warning signs. Start polishing up that resume and discreetly reaching out to your network. Don't panic, but definitely be proactive. Knowing your worth and having options is the best way to avoid getting blindsided. Look at smaller companies or even MSPs; they often need experienced network engineers.

Honestly, could be nothing. Big companies go through cycles. Ten years is a good run; you've probably seen this before, right? Focus on delivering solid work and making yourself indispensable. Volunteer for new projects, learn new skills. Layoffs often target those seen as easily replaceable. If you're a key player, they'll think twice. But yeah, keep an eye out just in case; it never hurts to be prepared.
