Is AT&T strategically downsizing or just bleeding talent?

Reading about the constant layoffs and cost-cutting measures at AT&T lately, I'm starting to wonder what the long-term strategy is. It feels like they're chipping away at the workforce without a clear vision for growth or even stability. We've seen profits reported, yet layoffs continue. This narrative of "restructuring" and "efficiency" is getting old, especially when it seems to mean discarding experienced people. Are these calculated moves to streamline operations for a specific future, or is it more reactive, trying to plug financial holes? It's unsettling to be part of a company that seems to be in a perpetual state of downsizing. I'm worried about career progression, skill development, and the overall morale of those who remain. Is anyone else feeling this disconnect between leadership's messaging and the reality on the ground?

It's a tough question. On one hand, companies often trim the fat during uncertain economic times or to reinvest in new technologies. But when it feels like it's constant, and impacting core operations or experienced staff, it definitely raises eyebrows. You'd hope there's a thought-out plan beyond just immediate cost savings, but it's hard to see from the outside when you're facing the consequences of those decisions. The impact on morale and remaining employees must be significant.
