I feel you. I was in the field service side and saw the same thing happening years ago. Constant pressure to cut corners on installs and repairs, which just led to more problems down the line. The short-term thinking is what kills you. I eventually left, found a smaller company where I felt more valued, and haven't looked back. Maybe it's time to polish up that resume and see what else is out there. Your mental health is worth more than a paycheck.
Honestly, I've heard similar complaints from friends who work at other large corporations. Is AT&T uniquely bad, or is this just the reality of late-stage capitalism? Layoffs and budget cuts are never fun, but it's easy to paint leadership as incompetent when you're feeling the squeeze. Maybe some of these decisions are necessary evils in a competitive market. Or maybe they are clueless. It's hard to tell from the outside.
