The 'Cost Cutting' Narrative Feels Like a Smoke Screen

I've been with AT&T for a while now, and honestly, this constant 'cost cutting' narrative for layoffs and outsourcing feels off. We're seeing profits, yes, maybe not record-breaking every quarter, but profits nonetheless. Yet, the axe keeps falling. It feels like they're just looking for any excuse to trim headcount, maybe to boost short-term stock performance or make room for cheaper labor elsewhere. It’s demoralizing to see colleagues let go while management talks about 'efficiency.' It makes you question the company's long-term strategy and commitment to its existing workforce. Are they actively trying to dismantle things piece by piece? It's hard not to feel like we're just numbers on a spreadsheet to be optimized away. Anyone else feel this way?

I've noticed the same thing. It's frustrating to hear 'cost cutting' when the company is still financially healthy. It feels like a deliberate strategy to maximize shareholder value at the expense of loyal employees. The morale hit is significant when people see their friends and colleagues losing jobs under such pretenses. Makes you wonder about the long-term vision beyond just quarterly results.

Totally agree. The 'efficiency' talk rings hollow when it leads to layoffs. If profits are there, why the continuous downsizing? It seems more about shifting resources to areas that offer lower labor costs, which is a common trend but doesn't make it any easier for the people directly affected. It's a tough environment to be in right now if you're an AT&T employee.
